It might not look like it today, but Kamloops and the Okanagan should have some sunny days ahead this week.

Some light flurries are expected to continue in Kamloops and the Okanagan today, Feb. 3, and tomorrow Feb. 4, according to Environment Canada.

“Up to two centimetres at the most from now until tomorrow afternoon and then after that the sun should be returning. We're going to probably start clearing out Tuesday night or even Wednesday morning,” Environment Canada meteorologist Derek Lee told iNFOnews.ca.

An Arctic weather system is expected to bring cold temperatures and dry weather to the Interior later this week.

Kamloops is expecting temperatures around -10 Celsius today and tomorrow with lows dropping to -11 C tonight.

Vernon and the North Okanagan should anticipate highs around -7 C and lows of -10 C, but it should be a bit warmer in Kelowna and Penticton with highs of -6 C and -3 C.

After the dusting of snow today and tomorrow, the rest of the week should be sunny but cold.

“Temperatures right now look like they will be continuing to dip into tomorrow and into Thursday, so the coldest you should be getting is around maybe -16 C to -18 C for Kamloops and Kelowna,” Lee said. “The wind chill will probably stay at -25 C to -30 C.”

Drivers using the mountain passes like the Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector this week are looking at a similar forecast with a bit of snow until Wednesday then sunny and cold the rest of the week into the weekend.

“A little bit of snow today but nothing close to a warning for sure i would say so the travellers routes probably anywhere again maybe 2 to 4 cm,” Lee said. “Everyone should be clearing out as our little weak low pressure system exits the area so you're just going to be in drier sunnier weather.”

Mountain resorts around Kamloops and the Okanagan had a great weekend for snow and conditions, but are expected to get a minor top up and bluebird days this week. Lee said the ski resorts might get 5 to 10 cm this week.
