Sunshine, clouds and maybe some rain in the Okanagan this week

Lake Country was bathed in sunshine this morning, April 29, 2019. Today's forecast calls for sunny conditions followed by more sun Tuesday before clouds move in Wednesday.

KELOWNA - There’s a possibility of rain in Penticton today while the rest of the Okanagan valley can expect mostly sunny conditions, although there is a chance of thunderstorms on the ridges.

In the last week of April, the Okanagan is expecting close to normal conditions for this time of year.

The rest of the country hasn’t been quite so fortunate, with parts of Alberta receiving up to 30 centimetres of snow on the weekend in a storm the Weather Network says "brought four seasons of weather to the province.”

Further east, Ontario is expecting rounds of rain and what Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gilham refers to as “inappropriate” spring snow today and tonight.

Environment Canada says Kelowna and Vernon can expect sun this morning, April 29, with a risk of thunderstorms along mountain ridges this afternoon and a high in both cities of 13 Celsius. Penticton is expected to see a 40 per cent chance of showers with the risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon and a daytime high of 14 C. Winds are expected to become north at 20 km/h this afternoon, with an overnight low of 1 C with patchy frost.

Tomorrow is expected to be mainly sunny with increasing afternoon clouds, a high of 14 C and an overnight low of 5 C.

A mostly cloudy day is anticipated Wednesday, with a high of 14 C and a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight. An overnight low of 4 C is expected.

The forecast for Thursday through Sunday is for a mix of sun and cloud each day, with a forecast high of 17 C on Thursday, 18 C on Friday and 17 C for Saturday and Sunday.

There is a 30 per cent possibility of showers on Friday and Saturday nights, with lows of 5 C and 6 C respectively.
