KELOWNA - Vinyl lovers will be thrilled to learn Sunrise Records will be replacing HMV in Orchard Park Mall.
HMV, which focusses on CDs and DVDs announced in February it will be closing its doors by the end of April.
Sunrise Records will be taking over 70 of the HMV locations across Canada, with the Kelowna location being one of two in B.C.
Although it may not be up and running in time for Record Store Day, on April 22, the vinyl store will be carrying 2,000 vinyl titles in each store, according to a press release.
“Sunrise will continue its longstanding tradition of supporting local independent artists by carrying their music for sale,” Sunrise Records President Doug Putman said in the release. “We want to support independent Canadian artists more than ever.”
The only other Sunrise Records location in the province will be at Metrotown, in Burnaby.
Vinyl has seen a resurgence over the past few years. Kelowna currently has two independent record stores, Milkcrate Records and Underground Music.
