KAMLOOPS - Kamloops can look forward to a pleasant start to Thanksgiving holiday weekend with sunny skies prevailing through Sunday, but holiday Monday will likely see the rain return.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says Kamloops should see increasing clouds and a high of 14 Celsius today, Oct. 5.

A ridge of high pressure over the Southern Interior Saturday will see a return to sunshine and a high of 16 C after a chance of patchy frost overnight.

Saturday night the temperatures will dip to freezing before bouncing back to a high of 13 C under sunny skies on Sunday.

Clouds will roll in Sunday afternoon, however, and Kamloops can expect to see periods of rain with a high of 11 C on holiday Monday.

Around 10 to 12 mm of rain is anticipated Monday afternoon through Tuesday, with overnight lows hovering around 5 C. Freezing levels are expected to be around 1,800 to 2,000 metres.

Normal highs and lows for Kamloops this time of year are 16 C and 5 C.

In spite of October only being five days old, the month is already averaging a full degree colder than normal, with an average temperature of 7.8 C compared to a normal average temperature of 8.8 C.
