SUMMERLAND - A motor vehicle collision that shut down Highway 97 in Summerland on the weekend resulted in life-threatening injuries to a motorcyclist.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in a media release a 78-year-old motorcyclist was rear-ended Sunday, Oct. 22, around 1:40 p.m. on Highway 97 at the intersection of Johnson Road in Summerland.

Witnesses told police the man was driving his motorcycle northbound in the slow lane approaching a red light when a 72-year-old woman driving a sedan in the northbound fast lane switched lanes and rear-ended the motorcycle.

The woman was not injured in the crash.

The police investigation into the collision continues.
