KAMLOOPS - Students are getting ready to compete in the Kamloops-Thompson School District’s first robotics competition next week.

The district's technology coordinator Elizabeth deVries says robotics is a new area of learning that teaches kids a lot. Students have been learning how to program different robots in preparation for the competition next week.

“It allows students to work together, problem solve and understand how things work when you break them down,” deVries says.

Students will use different types of robots in the competition called Blue Bots, Edison and Sphero.

deVries says there are approximately 20 teams made up of students from Grade 2 to Grade 7. The tournament will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thompson Rivers University gymnasium on Wednesday, June 6.

The event is open to the public.
