Get ready for some strong winds.

Environment Canada issued a far-reaching special weather statement for winds that could affect the South Thompson, Nicola, Similkameen, Okanagan, Shuswap, Boundary, Shuswap, Boundary and North Thompson.

"Following an abrupt change in weather conditions across the prairies this weekend, a strong ridge of high pressure will build over northern B.C. and spread southwards on Sunday night, Sept. 6," Environment Canada states in the special weather statement.

"Northerly wind gusts upwards of 60 kilometres an hour are possible through many of the valleys in the southern interior beginning overnight on Sunday. While wind gusts of this magnitude are not out of the ordinary, people out enjoying the waterways or campgrounds this Labour Day weekend should be prepared for any sudden increases in wind," the statement continues.

Winds will likely peak Monday morning, Sept. 7, however gusty conditions may prevail throughout the day.
