Stranger Danger: Lake Country mom alerts community to frightening encounter

KELOWNA - A Lake Country mother sent out a warning last night after her daughter was allegedly followed by a stranger who attempted to lure her into his car.

Laura Bot took to the Lake Country community Facebook page and said that at approximately 5:45 p.m. yesterday, April 30, her 12-year-old daughter was running with her brothers on a neighbourhood road.

They became separated and when she was alone a man approached and was “persistent in asking to give her a ride.”

When she declined, Bot said he became agitated and drove off.

The man was driving an older, blue four-door car. He was Caucasian with either light grey or blonde hair.

RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey can confirm police have been made aware of two encounters of a similar nature.

“We are taking each report seriously as we continue to investigate. We would encourage anyone with any information at all to come forward and speak with police," he said.

Witnesses can contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.

Police would also like to remind parents to continue to have those discussions with their children about suspicious activities and stranger danger and report any incidents immediately.
