After a hot, dry summer, the start of fall is forecast to be cool and wet this week with some intermittent rain from Kamloops all the way through the Okanagan Valley this week.
There is a 30 per cent chance of rain tonight into Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Okanagan and a 60 per cent chance of showers on and off until the weekend. An unstable weather system could bring some thunderstorms this week.
Kamloops has a 40 per cent chance of rain and thunder heading into Tuesday and some intermittent rain in its forecast for the rest of the week as well.
Environment Canada is expecting around 10 millimetres of rain in the Okanagan and a little bit less in Kamloops over the coming days.
“There will also be some gusty winds for the next two days with it possibly gusting up to 60 kilometres an hour around the area due to an unstable air mass,” meteorologist Derek Lee with Environment Canada told iNFOnews.ca.
Environment Canada has a special air quality statement out for the entire Okanagan and North Thompson along with several other regions in B.C. due to wildfire smoke. Lee said the wind and rain coming from the ocean could help with the air quality.
“It looks like the wind might help that, or at least the showers and then just cleaner air from the Pacific should replace that smoky condition,” Lee said.
Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the week around the Okanagan with a high of 15 Celsius for most of the week, going down to 12 C on Friday. Kamloops is forecasted to have a high of 19 C most of the week and a high of 17 C on Friday in Kamloops.
