THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - If you’re dreaming of summer sun, beaches and sitting around a campfire, you’re in luck — reservations for camping sites at provincial parks open tomorrow.
The Discover Camping reservation system opens for the season at 7 a.m. on tomorrow, March 15, for reservations up to three months in advance, which includes the May long weekend. By the beginning of April you will also be able to book for the Canada Day long weekend.
In total there are more than 5,800 campsites available at 122 campgrounds across the province. This year, several new campgrounds are also offering reservations, including Okanagan Falls Provincial Park and two rustic trapper’s cabins in Wells Gray Provincial Park.
Campground information and sites for 2016 are already viewable on the Discover Camping website so you can plan your summer getaways before reservations open.
Roughly half of all camping opportunities through B.C. Parks are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Last year more than 158,000 reservations were made and 73 per cent of reservations originated from B.C.
