Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,858.13 up 77.09points):

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down nine cents, or 2.39 per cent, at $3.67 on 6,723,174 shares. The company's second-quarter profit fell to US$182 million or 10 cents per diluted share, down from $211 million or 12 cents per share a year earlier. The plane and train maker's revenue fell to $4.2 billion from $4.7 billion.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 20 cents, or 2.57 per cent, at $7.97 on 6,721,735 shares. The Toronto-based miner shares were up despite posting lower second-quarter profits Wednesday.

Gasfrac Energy Services Inc. (TSX:GFS). Oil and gas. Down 84 cents, or 25.69 per cent, at $2.43 on 5,599,048 shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 28 cents, or 1.88 per cents, at $15.16 on 3,987,269 shares. The gold producer's shares were up despite announcing lower earnings and revenue in the second quarter on Wednesday. Yamana blamed lower metal prices and lower volumes of copper concentrate sales for the weak results.

Yellow Media Inc. (TSX:YLO). Directory publisher. Up a penny, or 16.67 per cent, at seven cents on 3,842,821 shares. The Montreal-based company posted a second-quarter profit of $67.7 million or nine cents per share. Year-earlier loss from continuing operations was $20.7 million or five cents per share. Revenue totalled $286.5 million, down from $342.7 million, mainly due to lower print revenues and the divestitures.

Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Up a penny, or 5.71 per cent, at 18.5 cents on 3,437,817 shares. The metals and mining sector closed 0.71 per cent higher.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,193.05 up 7.37 points):

Porto Energy Corp. (TSXV:PEC). Oil and gas. Unchanged at seven cents on 10,426,190 shares.

LNG Energy Ltd. (TSXV:LNG). Oil and gas. Unchanged at 2.5 cents on 5,658,500 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Up $1.82, or 6.15 per cent, at $31.39 on 4,762,507 shares. The Calgary-based company said it will cut overall capital spending for the year by about 10 per cent. Canadian Natural booked a profit of $753 million, or 68 cents per share, down from $929 million, or 84 cents per share, in the same period last year. Revenue totalled $3.83 billion, down from $3.32 billion.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up six cents, or 0.55 per cent, at $10.89 on 2,273,605 shares. Canada's largest life insurance company said challenging equity market and interest rate conditions resulted to a $300 million net loss in its second quarter. That reversed year-earlier profit of $490 million. Overall revenue from insurance premiums, investments and other sources increased to $11.3 billion, up from $10.8 billion a year earlier.

Tim Hortons Inc. (TSX:THI). Restaurant franchisor. Down $1.44, or 2.75 per cent, at $50.84 on 1,136,166 shares. The coffee and fast food company posted a net profit of $108.1 million, up from $95.5 million on higher system-wide sales, royalties and franchise fees among other things. Revenue rose 11.8 per cent to $785.6 million.
