TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,524.90, up 58.48 points):

Romarco Minerals Inc. (TSX:R). Miner. Down eight cents, or 13.11 per cent, at 53 cents on 17,769,731 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up 10 cents, or 2.62 per cent, at $3.91 on 14,219,638 shares.

Great Basin Gold Ltd. (TSX:GBG). Miner. Up eight cents, or 11.11 per cent, at 80 cents on 13,082,769 shares.

Avion Gold Corp. (TSX:AVR). Miner. Up two cents, or 3.85 per cent, at 54 cents on 12,895,281 shares.

Eldorado Gold Corp. (TSX:ELD). Miner. Up 31 cents, or 2.40 per cent, at $13.20 cents on 9,444,135 shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurance. Up 17 cents, or 1.61 per cent, at $10.74 on 9,381,069 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,251.02, down 1.31 points):

Aurcana Corp. (TSXV:AUN). Miner. Down 12 cents, or 11.76 per cent, at 90 cents on 28,038,246 shares.

Trelawney Mining and Exploration Inc. (TSXV:TRR). Miner. Unchanged at $3.29 on 17,994,157 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Bombardier Transportation (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up 10 cents, or 2.62 per cent, at $3.91 on 14,219,638 shares. Bombardier signed a deal worth up to $1.6 billion to supply San Francisco with new rail cars, the latest in a string of major contracts signed with U.S. customers.

Mega Brands Inc. (TSX:MB). Down six cents, or 0.94 per cent, at $6.34 on 12,130 shares. The Canadian toy maker told shareholders Friday that momentum is building in its efforts to regain its lost lustre, banking on well known characters to give its products a boost. The Montreal-based company is counting on a series of new construction toys along with a resurgence of its stationery and activities business to continue its turnaround from near bankruptcy.

Resolute Forest Products (TSX:RFP). Unchanged at $11.95 on 46,662 shares. The Montreal-based company said it would stop production at a Nova Scotia newsprint mill, locally known as Bowater, and sell its assets, throwing 320 people out of work. It cited the strong Canadian dollar and competition from Europe. Fibrek Inc. (TSX:FBK) (unchanged at 86 cents on 41,700 shares) said its mill in Quebec will undergo a 12-day shut-down beginning later this month due to market conditions.
