Travel to Canada was up 0.6 per cent in October: StatsCan

OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says travel to Canada rose 0.6 per cent in October to 2.1 million trips, led by an increase in visits from the United States.

The agency says travel by overseas visitors fell 0.4 per cent in October to 393,000.

Same-day car trips from the United States rose 0.3 per cent to 619,000, an 11-month high, while U.S. travel of one or more nights rose 0.9 per cent to one million trips.

Canadians took 5.5 million trips abroad in October, up 0.1 per cent from September.

Travel to the United States was unchanged in October at 4.7 million trips, while trips to destinations other than the United States increased 0.5 per cent to 816,000, a record according to data going to 1972.
