State of local emergency declared in Nicola Valley

FILE PHOTO

NICOLA VALLEY - A state of local emergency has been declared due to flooding in the Nicola Valley-North area of the regional disrict.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District says in a media release the declaration allows them to perform emergency works within and around waterways, including constructing or placing erosion protection work or flood protection works when an emergency is declared.

It also allows the district to have authority in clearing obstructions from bridge or culverts.

The regional disstrict says residents are being reminded that if they feel they are in imminent danger they should evacuate immediately.

If you are a resident in the regional district and choose to evacuate, or you require information or sandbagging supplies, you're asked to call the Thompson-Nicola Regional District emergency operations centre at 1-866-377-7188.
