A state of emergency has been declared in the Town of Osoyoos as the Eagle Bluff wildfire in Washington state continues to grow.

The state of emergency was issued shortly before 11 p.m. A few minutes before that, an evacuation alert was upgraded to an evacuation order for residents in the southwestern region of town.

The order is in effect for the area north of the Canada-U.S. border to the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 3, west and north along Highway 3.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre issued an evacuation order for 732 properties, which overlaps with the Osoyoos evacuation order.
