VANCOUVER - A provincial court has handed a former beauty queen a conditional discharge for taking part in the June 2011 Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver.
A judge has also sentenced Sophie Laboissonniere (lah-boss-en-yay) to 16 months probation, ordered her to perform community work and placed her on a curfew.
Laboissonniere, who was once crowned Miss Congeniality at a local beauty contest, pleaded guilty in January to one count of participating in a riot.
The court heard she was in the downtown London Drugs store for about 30 seconds the night of the riot and took some potato chips and bottled water but then threw them away once she left the store.
If she completes her sentence to the court's satisfaction, she would have no criminal record.
Her lawyer David Baker asked for the conditional discharge during an earlier sentencing hearing, saying his client was on medication that caused impulsive behaviour at the time and that she has already been exposed to international media attention.
