CALGARY - The folks who run the Calgary Stampede are scrambling after officials dropped a French-language verse of 'O Canada' before the popular chuckwagon races.

Media reports say the Stampede made the decision Saturday because people in the stands didn't want to sing any part of the anthem in French.

Doug Fraser, the Stampede's media manager, says some of the news reports about what happened are accurate and some are not.

But he declined to elaborate.

He says the Stampede will make a statement later today to make sure its message is clear.

Reaction to the French flap on Twitter has been mixed, with some people supporting the decision and others saying it is bad form.
