Kamloops RCMP are searching for witnesses and dash cam footage after a man was stabbed downtown last night.

Police responded to 6 Avenue and Victoria Street at around 6:22 p.m. on March 31, where one man had serious, life-threatening injuries after an assault with a weapon, according to a RCMP media release.

Police received a report that two men were fighting in an alley on Victoria Street around 15 minutes prior, which they believe was the same incident.

Police said the victim is in stable condition after being taken to hospital.

RCMP closed the area at a busy time of day to investigate the scene, but are now pleading to the public to assist with any evidence or witness accounts.

"Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen, heard, captured surveillance of, or know anything about what transpired yesterday," media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Anyone with information for police can call 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-9982.
