Sprinklers quench balcony fire in Kelowna

A small fire on a balcony in Kelowna was doused by a sprinkler on Saturday.

The Kelowna Fire Department received a call about a fire on a balcony of an apartment building in the 1200-block of Richter Street around 5 p.m. yesterday, according to a press release from the department.

Firefighters brought three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue truck, and a command vehicle, but when they arrived there was no smoke or visible fire.

A sprinkler activated on the fourth floor balcony which contained and extinguished the fire. There was minimal damage to the outside of the building.

No one was injured and everyone was able to return to their apartments.
