SPRING IS COMING: Gardening centres begin opening in Okanagan, Kamloops

Spring is in the air and gardening centres are starting to or preparing to open their doors.

Some are already open while others are preparing and waiting for the last bit of snow to melt before showcasing their wares for the season.

KELOWNA

The Greenery, a popular Kelowna gardening centre, announced its opening day Friday, Feb. 25, and plans to be open every day until the end of growing season, according to the centre’s Facebook page.

Art Knapp, another popular Kelowna location at 2550 Benvoulin Rd., is tentatively opening its doors for the season March 1.

Better Earth Gardens, at 1629 K.L.O. Rd., is also planning an opening next month on March 5.

Rick's Garden World, 1410 Pioneer Rd., a family-owned and operated centre, opened Feb. 15, and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Monday. It is closed on Tuesdays.

PENTICTON

Flowers on the Bench nursery on Upper Bench Road South will have a soft opening March 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily before returning to its regular hours of operation of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 1.

VERNON

The Flower Spot says it will open for the season March 9 on Okanagan Landing Road.

KAMLOOPS

Ollek Nurseries on Knutsford Hills Drive is planning to open mid-April, weather dependent, daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the spring season. Stay tuned on its social media channels for the exact day.

Kamloops Art Knapp on 420 Nunavut Way will open its garden centre in mid to late March, depending on when the snow is gone, according to an employee. Updates can be found on its Facebook page for the official opening date.
