Sportsmens Bowl Road residents facing evacuation alert

High water from the Kearns and Park Rill Creeks are making its way downstream from the Willowbrook area, now affecting properties along Sportsmens Bowl Road near Oliver.

OLIVER - Properties downstream of Willowbrook are now facing potential evacuation as flooding undermines Sportsmens Bowl Road.

The regional district issued an evacuation alert for 16 properties using Sportsmens Bowl Road late yesterday afternoon, April 10, after concerns flooding of the road is undermining it to the point where it will be impassable.

The properties are located nine kilometres north of Oliver, just off Highway 97.

It is not known when that point will be reached.

Residents and property owners are being advised to make alternative arrangements for parking of vehicles as soon as possible to prevent them from becoming stranded on Sportsmens Bowl Road.

Affected residents will be given as much advance notice as possible of the road closure, but notice may be limited due to rapidly changing conditions.

Willowbrook remains under a state of local emergency as flooding concerns continue in that community.
