TORONTO — Toronto reliever Tyler Rogers says the Blue Jays were the first team to reach out to him on the opening day of free agency.

He adds the Blue Jays were "more aggressive" than any other club, with the two sides eventually agreeing to a three-year deal worth US$37 million.

The 35-year-old submarine pitcher took part in a media call this afternoon after the team confirmed the contract Monday.

Rogers is coming off the best season of his seven-year career. He'll most likely serve in a setup role for the American League champions.

He was 4-6 this past season with a 1.98 earned-run average over 81 appearances.

Rogers spent his first six seasons with the San Francisco Giants before he was traded to the New York Mets last summer.
