WARSAW — Canada's Sara-Maude Dupuis captured a gold medal Sunday at the ISU Challenger Series PGE Warsaw Cup figure skating event.

The Montreal skater won the women's event to register her first international gold medal. Dupuis went into the free skate with the lead and maintained it afterwards with a score of 119.43 points, giving her a personal-best total of 185.66.

Italy's Marina Piredda (172.05) was second, ahead of Norway’s Mia Risa Gomez (161.96).

"Winning an international event has been a dream for so long," Dupuis said. "Sometimes I didn’t think it was possible anymore, but (Sunday) I’m glad I stayed focused and did what I had to do.

"I knew there was a chance for a medal and that was my goal, but I never thought it would be a gold medal, so this is even better."

On Saturday, Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps earned Canada's first gold, that coming in the pairs competition.
