ATLANTA (AP) —

Aidan Birr made a 55-yard field goal as time expired and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets upset the No. 12 Clemson Tigers 24-21 on Saturday.

With no timeouts left and the clock running with under 20 seconds to play, the Georgia Tech special teams squad sprinted onto the field and lined up.

And on fourth-and-3, Birr connected and the home crowd rushed the field.

Quarterback Haynes King returned from a lower-body injury that kept him out of Georgia Tech’s Sept. 6 win over Gardener-Webb.

King was 19 for 27 for 216 yards and added 25 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter for the Yellow Jackets (3-0, 1-0 ACC).

King’s score and the 2-point conversion gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-14 lead.

Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik had an uneven performance in which he turned the ball over twice — one fumble and one interception.

NO. 1 OHIO STATE 37, OHIO 9

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Julian Sayin passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns, Jeremiah Smith found the end zone twice and top-ranked Ohio State pulled away in the second half for a victory over Ohio.

Ohio (1-2) pulled to 13-9 early in the third quarter when Parker Navarro connected with Chase Hendricks for a 67-yard touchdown. However, the Buckeyes took control by scoring on their next four drives.

Jayden Fielding’s third field goal put the Buckeyes (3-0) up 16-9 before Sayin found Smith for a 47-yard touchdown and Carnell Tate for a 49-yard score to make it a three-score game.

Smith, who had a career-high nine receptions for 153 yards, put it out of reach by going around left end on a 17-yard reverse to make it 37-9 midway through the fourth quarter. The sophomore also became the fastest player in school history to reach 1,500 yards receiving, reaching the mark in his 19th game.

Sayin completed 25 of 32 passes. He had his second straight 300-yard game but also had two interceptions.

Bo Jackson had 109 rushing yards on nine carries and Tate had five receptions for 101 yards and a TD.

NO. 2 PENN STATE 52, VILLANOVA 6

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Drew Allar threw for 209 yards and a touchdown and No. 2 Penn State got another near flawless effort from its defense in a win over Villanova.

Nicholas Singleton ran for two touchdowns, Kaytron Allen added another, Trebor Peña caught a touchdown, and Ryan Barker kicked three field goals.

Linebacker Tony Rojas had two sacks for the Nittany Lions (3-0) who came one play shy of posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1996.

Penn State scored two first-half touchdowns against FCS Villanova but the Nittany Lions settled for a pair field goals by Barker and punted twice despite outgaining Villanova 252-69.

NO. 3 LSU 20, FLORIDA 10

BATON ROUGE, La., (AP) — Garrett Nussmeier threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, Dashawn Spears returned one of his first two career interceptions 58 yards for a touchdown and No. 3 LSU beat Florida.

After the ejection of LSU preseason AP All-America linebacker Whit Weeks for a targeting penalty in the game’s opening minutes, the Tigers (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) intercepted five of Florida quarterback DJ Lagway’s passes and sacked him three times.

Lagway’s career high in interceptions came in what was widely seen as a pivotal bounce-back game for the Gators (1-2, 0-1) and fourth-year coach Billy Napier after a surprising home loss to South Florida a week earlier.

LSU, which had starting center Braelen Moore back in the lineup after an ankle injury last week, gained just 96 yards rushing (with 51 coming on a late run by Caden Durham) and punted seven times. Nussmeier also was intercepted on a risky throw back across the middle that infuriated Kelly.

Florida, which punted five times, finished with 366 total yards to LSU’s 316. Lagway finished 33 of 49 for 287 yards and one TD passing.

NO. 4 OREGON 34, NORTHWESTERN 14

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Dante Moore threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and No. 4 Oregon opened Big Ten play with a win at Northwestern.

Dierre Hill Jr. added a 66-yard scoring run and Jayden Limar and Jordon Davison had rushing touchdowns to help the Ducks (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) win their road opener.

The Wildcats (1-2, 0-1) forced an Oregon punt on the game’s first drive but didn’t have much of an answer the rest of the game. The Ducks led 17-0 at the half after scoring on their next three possessions to improve to 11-0 against conference foes since joining the Big Ten last season.

Oregon took advantage of the game’s first turnover — Bryce Boettcher’s interception of a deflected pass in the first quarter — into the first touchdown a few plays later when Limar ran in from a yard After a field goal, Moore connected with Kenyon Sadiq for a 24-yard touchdown just before the half.

Hill’s long run midway through the third quarter — on Oregon’s first play of the second half — and a short touchdown run by Davison later in the period turned the game into a rout.

Atticus Sappington added a pair of field goals.

Preston Stone was 11 for 21 for 135 yards with two interceptions for Northwestern. Caleb Komolafe (53 yards) had a 1-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to avert a shutout and Dashun Reeder added a 79-yard run on his lone carry in the final two minutes.

Klubnik was 15 for 26 for 207 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Wesco early in the second half to give the Tigers a 14-13 lead. Klubnik added 62 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

NO. 5 MIAMI 49, NO. 18 SOUTH FLORIDA 12

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Carson Beck threw three touchdown passes, Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 5 Miami remained unbeaten with a win over No. 18 South Florida.

Beck completed 23 of 28 passes for 340 yards and ran for a touchdown for Miami (3-0). Fletcher had a two-TD game for the second consecutive week and Joshua Moore had two first-quarter scoring catches.

Byrum Brown completed 20 of 36 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown for USF (2-1), which was bidding to be the first team since Miami in 1987 to open a season by beating three consecutive AP-ranked opponents. Brown threw an interception late in the first half, ending his school-record streak of 252 passes without being picked off.

Christian Neptune had a 12-yard touchdown catch for the Bulls, who got 128 yards on just four catches from Chas Nimrod. USF had four passes go for more than 25 yards, including 53- and 43-yarders to Nimrod.

NO. 6 GEORGIA 44, NO. 15 TENNESSEE 41, OT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Josh McCray scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to give No. 6 Georgia a victory over No. 15 Tennessee.

The Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 SEC) came from behind three times to beat the Volunteers (2-1, 1-0) for the ninth straight time with Nate Frazier setting up the winning score with a 21-yard run on Georgia’s first snap in overtime.

Max Gilbert kicked a 42-yard field goal to give Tennessee a 41-38 edge in overtime. Tennessee had a chance to win in regulation, but Gilbert pushed a 43-yard field-goal attempt wide right just before the final whistle.

Joey Aguilar threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a TD to lead Tennessee. The Volunteers came from behind twice in the second half after jumping out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter.

Chris Brazzell III caught scoring passes of 72, 14 and 66 yards. Braylon Staley’s 32-yard TD reception early in the fourth quarter put Tennessee on top 35-30 with 11:01 left.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a TD. Trailing 38-30 with 2:32 left in the game, Stockton hit London Humphreys with a 28-yard fade in the end zone. The two-point conversion tied it for the third time.

NO. 7 TEXAS 27, UTEP 10

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Arch Manning had two first-half touchdown runs while struggling through another poor passing game in No. 7 Texas' victory over UTEP.

One of the preseason favorites for the Heisman Trophy, Manning ran 2 yards for an early touchdown and had a 5-yard scoring run in the final seconds of the half for a 14-3 lead. But he also had 10 straight incompletions, threw an interception in the end zone and was briefly booed by the home crowd in the first half.

Manning has struggled to live up to his preseason hype after Texas (2-1) debuted at No. 1 before losing its season opener at Ohio State. He was 9 of 22 for 97 yards through three quarters with sidearm throws and overthrown receivers before tossing a short touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo early in the fourth.

Texas smothered the Miners (1-2), holding UTEP to 259 total yards. The Longhorns have surrendered just four touchdowns this season.

NO. 16, TEXAS A&M 41, NOTRE DAME 40

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) —Marcel Reed escaped pressure to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds left, Randy Bond kicked the extra point and No. 16 Texas A&M beat No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 on Saturday night.

Texas A&M (3-0) beat a Top 25 team on the road for the first time since knocking off then-No. 3 Auburn on Nov. 8, 2014. The Aggies had lost 13 straight road games to ranked opponents.

Notre Dame dropped to 0-2 after playing in the national title game last season. The Irish opened with a 24-27 loss at No. 5 Miami on Aug. 31.

Bond made a 45-yard field goal to tie it at 34 with 9:06 left.

Notre Dame pushed ahead 40-34 with 2:53 to go on Jeremiyah Love’s 12-yard run. A botched snap on the extra point kept the lead at six.

NO. 9 ILLINOIS 38, WESTERN MICHIGAN 0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Luke Altmyer threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and No. 9 Illinois shut out Western Michigan.

Kaden Feagin rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown and Ca’Lil Valentine ran for 63 yards and a TD. Hank Beatty caught six passes for 53 yards and a TD.

Broc Lowry threw for 78 yards and ran for 40 yards for the Broncos (0-3), who had 204 total yards.

Illinois led 10-0 at halftime, preserving the shutout with a goal-line stand in the final seconds. The Illini stopped the Broncos twice at the 1-yard line.

The only TD of the half was a 6-yard pass from Altmyer to Beatty in the second quarter, his first scoring catch of the season. Illinois’ leading receiver had scored a TD on a punt return in the Illini’s opener vs. Western Illinois.

VANDERBILT 31, NO. 11 SOUTH CAROLINA 7

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Diego Pavia completed 18 of 25 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, Jamezell Lassiter ran for a 44-yard score and Vanderbilt hammered No. 11 South Carolina on the road to snap a 16-game losing streak to the Gamecocks.

The Commodores (3-0, 1-0 SEC) hadn’t beat South Carolina since 2008, but dominated every facet of the game and forced four turnovers for their first 3-0 start since 2017.

South Carolina quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate LaNorris Sellers was knocked out of the game in the second quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from from Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson, who was ejected for targeting.

Sellers did not return, and finished 6 of 7 passing for 94 yards with one costly interception in the red zone with the score tied at 7.

He was replaced by Luke Doty, who was largely ineffective failing to lead a scoring drive.

The Commodores dominated the line of scrimmage and held nearly a 12-minute edge in time of possession.

Pavia looked sharp from the start, leading Vanderbilt on a nine-play, 73-yard drive to open the game, capped with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Sedrick Alexander that set the tone. Pavia later tossed a 5-yard TD pass to Junior Sherrill in the second quarter giving the Commodores a 14-7 lead at the break

NO. 13 OKLAHOMA 42, TEMPLE 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — John Mateer threw for 282 yards and a touchdown and had a 51-yard rushing score and Tory Blaylock rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TDs to lead No. 13 Oklahoma to a victory over Temple.

The Sooners (3-0) took a 25-0 lead in the first half of a game played in the home of the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles and essentially ran out the clock the rest of the game.

OU made a rare trip to the East Coast and boasted a solid turnout of fans — even while the marching band stayed home — and crimson and cream were the primary colors among an announced crowd of 24,927 fans. Even with the solid OU turnout, that number failed the eye test — though the Sooners looked every bit a playoff contender as advertised.

Jovantae Barnes scored a 3-yard rushing TD on the opening drive and OU converted the 2-point conversion for the 8-0 lead. The Owls (2-1) made a nice defensive stand on the next drive, with a sack and a tackle for a loss that pushed the Sooners into a fourth-and-long. No problem for OU. Tate Sandell promptly kicked a 52-yard field goal.

NO. 14 IOWA STATE 24, ARKANSAS STATE 16

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Rocco Becht threw for 265 yards and had passing and rushing touchdowns as No. 14 Iowa State escaped with a win over Arkansas State.

Jaylen Raynor threw for 222 yards and rushed for 83 for Arkansas State (1-2), which had consecutive touchdowns nullified by penalties early in the fourth quarter and had to settle for a 40-yard field goal from Clune Van Andel — his third of the game — that got the Red Wolves within one.

NO. 17 MISSISSIPPI 41, ARKANSAS 35

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss ran for two touchdowns and threw for one in a surprise start, and No. 17 Mississippi outlasted Arkansas.

Chambliss had rushing touchdowns of 1 and 2 yards, and his 6-yard TD pass to De’Zhaun Stribling gave Ole Miss (3-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) a 38-28 lead in the third quarter. Chambliss finished 21 of 29 passing for 353 yards in place of Austin Simmons, who was sidelined by a foot injury he sustained in last week’s win at Kentucky.

Simmons spent most of the week in a walking boot, but practiced late in the week and was expected to start. He made a brief appearance in the second quarter, throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Harrison Wallace III to give Ole Miss a 28-21 lead. But he limped back to the sideline after his only pass of the game and did not play in the second half.

Taylen Green threw for a touchdown and ran for one for Arkansas (2-1, 0-1), finishing with 111 yards rushing on 13 carries. He went 22 of 35 passing for 305 yards. Mike Washington Jr. ran for 65 yards and two TDs.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Ty Simpson threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns, including two to returning star Ryan Williams, and No. 19 Alabama overpowered Wisconsin for the second consecutive year.

Simpson completed 24 of 29 passes, with two of his misses being drops by Williams and freshman Lotzier Brooks. Williams finished with five receptions for 165 yards after missing last week’s game because of a concussion.

Simpson, who was equally solid last week against Louisiana-Monroe, joined Mac Jones (2020) as the only quarterbacks in school history to complete at least 80% of his passes and throw three TDs in consecutive games.

The Byrant-Denny Stadium crowd erupted as Williams took a screen pass and went 75 yards on the first play of the second half. It gave Williams his first 100-yard game since facing Georgia last September.

Bray Hubbard’s two interceptions led an Alabama (2-1) defense that held Wisconsin to 209 yards. The Crimson Tide notched four sacks.

Danny O’Neil, subbing for injured Wisconsin starter Billy Edwards, completed 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards. His 41-yard TD pass to Jayden Ballard was one of the few highlights for the Badgers (2-1). Vinny Anthony II also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.

NO. 20 UTAH 31, WYOMING 6

LARAMIE, Wyo (AP) — Devon Dampier led four consecutive touchdown drives in the second half, and No. 20 Utah beat Wyoming in the rivals’ first meeting since 2010.

On the next possession, Dampier engineered a 19-play, 80-yard march. On the final play, he dropped the ball after his dropback, picked it up and then threw a 8-yard scoring strike to Larry Simmons with 0:23 left in the third quarter.

After an interception by Jackson Bennee, Dampier connected with JJ Buchanan for a 14-yard TD to make it 24-0 with 8:35 remaining.

Oregon State’s Maalik Murphy threw touchdown passes in the waning minutes to Bryce Caufield Karson Boschma. The Beavers are 0-3 for the first time since 2011.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Bryce Underwood passed for 235 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 114 yards and two more scores, leading No. 23 Michigan to a victory over Central Michigan.

The Wolverines (2-1) and their freshman star bounced back from a lackluster performance in a loss at Oklahoma. Biff Poggi stepped in for suspended coach Sherrone Moore, who also will miss the school’s Big Ten opener next weekend at Nebraska.

Underwood completed 16 of 25 passes, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Semaj Morgan, in three quarters before watching the rest of the game from the sideline.

The Chippewas (1-2) nearly picked off Underwood’s first pass, then struggled to slow him down through the air or on the ground.

Michigan’s Justice Haynes had 104 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 carries. Jordan Marshall scored twice while running for 52 yards on 10 attempts.

The Wolverines scored at least two touchdowns in each quarter and had 616 yards of offense.

Jeremiah Cobb continued to find success in Damari Alston’s absence, rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown. Cobb has a career-high four rushing touchdowns through three games.

Cam Coleman reeled in the first touchdown of his 2025 season, opening up the scoring for Auburn. Eric Singleton Jr. had a team-leading six receptions for 65 yards.

South Alabama’s Bishop Davenport threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns but also had an interception. The Jaguars (1-2) had success moving the football and finished with 310 yards, but penalties, stalled drives and defensive miscues prevented the game from being tightly contested.
