CHICAGO (AP) — Cal Raleigh broke Johnny Bench’s record for home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break, hitting his major league-leading 28th and 29th in the Seattle Mariners’ 9-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Raleigh broke a tie in the seventh with No. 29 to move ahead of Hall of Famer Bench’s 1970 mark. Raleigh needed only 73 games to break the record that Bench set in 87 games. The Seattle star shattered the mark with 22 games to spare before the All-Star game.

Raleigh had three hits in his sixth multi-homer game of the season. The 28-year-old slugger drove in three runs to push his season total to 63.

Mitch Garver also homered twice and drove in five runs, putting it away with a three-run shot in the ninth. Randy Arozarena and Donovan Solano each had three hits to help Seattle win for the fifth time in seven games.

RANGERS 6, PIRATES 2

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jacob deGrom struck out seven in six strong innings, Corey Seager hit his first home run since May 10 and Texas beat Pittsburgh.

DeGrom (7-2) retired the first 11 batters and allowed two runs and five hits in six innings with one walk. One day after his 37th birthday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner extended his franchise record to 12 consecutive starts of allowing two runs or fewer and five hits or fewer.

After being injured for most of the past four seasons, deGrom is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four June starts.

Seager homered with one out in the fifth inning off rookie Mike Burrows (1-2), a drive to right field to increase the Rangers’ lead to 4-2. The five-time All-Star shortstop had gone 81 plate appearances without a home run while also being on the injured list from May 11-27 with a strained right hamstring.

Burrows lasted 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.

RAYS 14, TIGERS 8

TAMPA Fla. (AP) — Yandy Díaz was 3 for 5 with two homers, Matt Thaiss drove in four runs and every Rays starter had at least one hit in Tampa Bay’s win over Detroit.

The 14 runs given up was a season high for Detroit, which entered with the best record in the majors.

Díaz hit his 19th career leadoff homer, launching a 3-2 fastball over the right-center fence. In the fifth, his solo shot extended the Rays’ lead to 9-3 and gave him multiple homers in a game for the first time since May 11, 2019.

Curtis Mead was 2 for 2 with three walks, three runs and an RBI. Díaz, Taylor Walls and Kameron Misner each drove in two for Tampa Bay, which is 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Yankees in the American League East.

Rays starter Shane Baz (7-3) won his fourth consecutive decision, striking out six and giving up four hits in 5 1/3 innings.

ORIOLES 5, YANKEES 3

NEW YORK (AP) — Ramón Urías hit a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning against Luke Weaver, spoiling the New York reliever’s return, as Baltimore topped the Yankees.

Urías snapped a 3-3 tie when he drove a full-count pitch into the right field seats for a 337-foot drive. The ball went over Aaron Judge’s leaping try, off a fan’s shirt and into the first row of the seats.

Weaver (1-2) returned from missing 17 games with a strained left hamstring and gave up his third homer this season. He gave up two runs and two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

After Weaver exited, Gunnar Henderson’s pinch-hit RBI single off Tim Hill put Baltimore up 5-3.

WHITE SOX 7, BLUE JAYS 1

TORONTO (AP) — Luis Robert Jr. hit a two-run homer in Chicago’s four-run third inning and the White Sox beat Toronto to end an eight-game losing streak.

Josh Rohas had a two-run double in the third for Chicago. Andrew Benintendi had a solo home run in the first and added an RBI single in the second.

It was a double-bullpen game, with both teams trotting out a handful of relief pitchers with no starters available.

Grant Taylor pitched a scoreless inning for the White Sox before giving way to long reliever Tyler Alexander (4-7), who worked four without giving up a run. Dan Altavilla, Wikelman Gonzalez and Tyler Gilbert also came out of the bullpen, with Gonzalez allowing a run.

Spencer Turnbull (1-1) gave up four runs on five hits and two walks over two innings of work. Mason Fluharty gave up three runs on two hits and two walks, before Braydon Fisher, Nick Sandlin, Chad Green, Brendon Little and Jeff Hoffman combined for six scoreless innings.

MARLINS 6, BRAVES 2

MIAMI (AP) — Agustín Ramírez hit a three-run home run, Janson Junk pitched five effective innings and Miami beat Atlanta.

Ramírez made it 4-1 in the third with a drive off Braves starter Didier Fuentes (0-1) that went 436 feet to left, giving the rookie catcher a team-leading 11 home runs on the season.

Junk (2-0) allowed five hits, one run and struck out five in his first Marlins start. Junk, who has made five relief appearances, did not issue a walk.

Eric Wagaman boosted Miami’s lead with a pinch-hit, ground-rule double in the sixth, and Ramírez drove in another run in the seventh.

CARDINALS 6, REDS 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andre Pallante allowed two hits in six shutout innings and St. Louis used a five-run eighth inning to beat Cincinnati.

Pallante (5-3) allowed a walk and a second-inning single to Matt McLain before leaving with a 1-0 lead after a broken-bat single by Elly De La Cruz to begin the seventh. Phil Maton got three outs to end it.

St. Louis scored five runs off relievers Scott Barlow, Taylor Rogers and Tony Santillan — who retired one batter each. Masyn Winn drove in the first run with a single off Rogers and Lars Nootbaar’s single off Santillan capped the rally after a two-out throwing error by Gavin Lux led to two runs.

Brendan Donovan reached on a fielder’s choice, took third on a Winn double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead in the third against Reds starter Brady Singer (7-5).

Singer allowed one run on four hits and a walk in six innings, striking out seven and retiring his final nine batters.

PHILLIES 10, METS 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryson Stott hit a bases-clearing triple in a six-run seventh inning and Philadelphia surged past slumping New York into first place in the NL East with a victory.

Nick Castellanos homered for the Phillies, who opened the three-game set between division rivals with their eighth win in their last nine games.

Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil homered for New York, which has lost seven straight.

Reliever Reed Garrett (2-3) started the seventh for the Mets but failed to retire any of the five batters he faced after opening the frame by giving up doubles to Brandon Marsh and Trea Turner.

BREWERS 17, TWINS 6

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski took a perfect game into the seventh inning of his second career start, Christian Yelich drove in a career-high and franchise-record eight runs, and Milwaukee scored 16 times in the final four innings to beat Minnesota.

Misiorowski became the first pitcher to start his big league career with 11 consecutive hitless innings as a starter since 1900. He threw five no-hit innings against St. Louis on June 12, but left in the sixth with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander struck out six with a fastball topping out at 102.1 mph and a slider and changeup in the mid-90s.

Misiorowski (2-0) walked Byron Buxton to start the seventh inning and Matt Wallner followed by lofting an 0-1 pitch into the flower bed above the right field wall. Waller’s launch angle was 44 degrees.

After the homer, Misiorowski was pulled for reliever Nick Mears and left to a standing ovation from a crowd that included thousands of Brewers fans.

Misiorowski threw 86 pitches, 60 for strikes, and departed with Milwaukee leading 8-2.

DIAMONDBACKS 14, ROCKIES 8

DENVER (AP) — Eugenio Suárez homered twice to become the third Venezuelan-born player to reach 300, helping Arizona beat Colorado.

Suárez, who tied his season high with four hits, went deep in the fifth and sixth innings to reach the milestone. He trails only Miguel Cabrera (511) and Andrés Galaragga (399) among Venezuelan-born players.

Ketel Marte drove in five runs with a three-run home run and two-run double, and Ildemaro Vargas finished a triple shy of the cycle and hit his first homer of the season for Arizona, which had a season-high 21 hits.

The big offensive night spoiled Austin Gomber’s first home start of the season. Gomber (0-1), who began the year on the injured list with a sore left shoulder, made his season debut Sunday at Atlanta with five scoreless innings, but was tagged for nine runs and 12 hits in 4-2/3 innings against Arizona.

ASTROS 3, ANGELS 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mauricio Dubón scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning, Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes opened the game with home runs, and Houston beat Los Angeles.

Peña led off the 10th with a single that advanced automatic runner Dubón to third. Dubón scored when Hunter Strickland, who hadn’t allowed a run in 14 2/3 innings of his first 13 appearances with the Angels, threw a pitch behind the back of Paredes.

Houston closer Josh Hader (5-1) retired the side in order in the ninth and Bennett Sousa retired three straight batters in the 10th for his second save.

Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi gave up home runs to Pena and Paredes for a 2-0 Astros lead in the held the Astros to four hits, striking out nine and walking none, for the rest of his seven-inning start.

ROYALS 6, PADRES 5

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning for Kansas City, who got home runs from Jonathan India and Bobby Witt Jr. to beat San Diego for their fourth straight win.

The Royals started this trip with a three-game sweep at Texas. The Padres have lost eight of 11.

San Diego’s Manny Machado hit his 12th homer leading off the ninth off Carlos Estévez, who then retired the side for his big league-leading 22nd save.

ATHLETICS 5, GUARDIANS 1

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Jeffrey Springs allowed three hits in a season-high 7 1/3 innings, rookie Nick Kurtz homered for a third straight game and the Athletics beat Cleveland.

Springs (6-5) struck out six and walked one, throwing 104 pitches for his first win since May 13. He left with a 4-1 lead after giving up Angel Martínez’s homer.

Kurtz followed a two-out single by Brent Rooker with his 10th home run — a 406-foot shot to left-center field — to give the Athletics the lead against Guardians starter Tanner Bibee (4-7).

Michael Kelly got the final two outs in the eighth and Mason Miller pitched the ninth, closing out the four-hitter with help from another dazzling catch by Denzel Clarke.

Bibee allowed five runs — four earned — on 11 hits with season highs of eight innings and 10 strikeouts.

The Athletics have won six of their last eight.

DODGERS 6, NATIONALS 5

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw persevered through five tough innings to win his third consecutive start, and Miguel Rojas hit a two-run homer in Los Angeles’ victory over Washington.

Kiké Hernández had two doubles and scored two runs, and Shohei Ohtani added an RBI single for the defending World Series champions. Los Angeles has won six of seven, improving to 6-2 on its 10-game homestand.

Kershaw (3-0) yielded solo homers by Amed Rosario and Riley Adams, but held Washington to five hits and repeatedly escaped trouble.

Tanner Scott gave up CJ Abrams’ one-out homer in the ninth before finishing his 15th save.

RED SOX 7, GIANTS 5

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Ceddanne Rafaela had a tiebreaking homer among his three hits, leading Boston to a victory over their former star slugger Rafael Devers and San Francisco.

Rafaela connected with a one-out drive over the wall in center against Sean Hjelle (1-1) to give Boston a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning. Rafaela also doubled and scored in the third and hit an RBI single in the fourth to help Boston win for the eighth time in nine games.

Devers faced his former team five days after the shocking trade that sent him to San Francisco, going 0 for 5. He got a standing ovation before grounding out in his first at-bat in the first inning and hit a drive to the wall in left-center that Rafaela caught against the wall.

Brennan Bernardino (3-2) pitched a scoreless inning for the win and Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 15 chances.
