WHL roundup: Blades sharp in third period, beat Americans 4-2

KENNEWICK — Cooper Williams' goal at 13:05 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the visiting Saskatoon Blades to a 4-2 Western Hockey League victory over the Tri-City Americans on Tuesday at the Toyota Center.

Zach Olsen, Kazden Mathies and Rowan Calvert (empty-netter) also scored for the Blades (10-5-0-0), who were tied 1-1 after the first period but trailed 2-1 heading into the third. Mathies chipped in with two assists.

Jesse McKinnon and Gavin Garland scored for the Americans (5-6-0-0), who went 0-for-2 on the power play.

The Blades, who went 0-for-3 on the power play, outshot the hosts 36-31.

Blades goaltender Ethan McCallum stopped 29 of 31 shots, while Xavier Wendt stopped 32 of 35 for the Americans.
