ENDERBY – Members of the Splatsin First Nation have evicted everyone living in a suspected drug house and organized an effort to clean up the surrounding land.
On April 11, community members combined efforts to clean up what's known as the 'heroin house.' According to a media release from the Splatsin First Nation, the house was a health hazard.
"We can't tolerate known or suspected drug dealers in our community or in our homes. We all have a responsibility to ensure a drug free community," the release states.
The release also states the clean up effort is to ensure no one dies from an overdose. The notice was signed by Chief Wayne Christian, Coun. Edna Felix, Coun. George William, Coun. George W. Dennis III, Coun. Daniel Joe and Coun. Lawrence Williams.
Dr. Gabor Mate, author of "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts" will speak about the core issues surrounding addictions on June 1, 2017. Dr. Mate has worked on Vancouver's downtown east side for years and can offer insight on the causes of addictions.
If you wish to report any suspected drug dealers in the community, call RCMP Const. Karla Ivany at 250-838-6818.
