Spiritleaf Penticton Marks Milestone in Cannabis Retail

Spiritleaf Penticton offers a unique consumer experience with a carefully-curated selection of high-quality products. Each Spiritleaf store evokes a positive energy and provides customers with a welcome space to gather, learn and share experiences.

“We feature distressed woods and metals with crisp white walls to brighten the space and create an extension from the fresh outdoors,” states Penticton franchise owner Matt Bolton. “We opened in August 2019 and we have a very loyal clientele, due to our knowledgeable staff and extensive product line.”

The store is proof of a modern retail model that offers legitimacy, reputability, professionalism and a feeling of confidence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Spiritleaf has continued to serve Penticton customers by providing self-service tablets that provide detailed information and the most up-to-date pricing.

Product variety has expanded significantly since legalization, and there is plenty to learn about THC and CBD. Bolton is seeing a growing demand for lower THC product (less psychoactive effect).

“We encourage our customers to learn about cannabis production in Canada and how to find the right product,” Bolton says. “Our customers come into the store seeking information because we are a trusted source. While our prices are determined by government regulation, there is a wide range to suit all tastes and budgets. Our goal - as a Canadian company with over 60 franchises - is to be the number one trusted source for cannabis.”

The first Canadian cannabis company to be granted Canadian Franchise Association Membership to date, Spiritleaf is establishing a chain of recreational cannabis retail stores with the vision of becoming the leading recreational cannabis retail chain in Canada. Inner Spirit Holdings (ISH.cn) was established in Calgary and went public in August 2018. It oversees franchise sales, construction, training and assistance to franchised store operations.

Being part of a franchised company has real advantages in a complex market. They help guide the tricky process of licensing, product selection, and brand awareness. The 43 stores established in Alberta are helping to build market share in B.C. as well.

“We are planning a big one-year anniversary event from August 5-9,” Bolton says. Licensed producers will be on hand to answer questions, and to provide branded merchandise.

“We have modified our store for social distancing. We encourage ordering online, with pickup in the store. We are pushing for delivery restrictions to be lifted," Bolton says. 

 Other provinces are allowing cannabis delivery and B.C. retailers are advocating for more flexibility.

“We offer the largest selection in town and aim for as much B.C. product as possible. Customers want 50-100 different products to choose from and we are listening to them.” 

A growing trend is organic, “craft” growers with slightly higher prices. There are CBD and THC percentage differences posted on every product. Spiritleaf is offering daily specials and weekly draws will be restarted in July.

“There are changes that are needed to ensure we can market our product. We’d like to be able to meet new customers at more venues like farmers’ markets or trade-fairs, which is a tried-and-true way for new products to introduced," Bolton says. "We’d like to be able to stay open later as well. We are advocating for real changes to meet the needs of Canadians.”
