Spiked belt stops car theft suspect near Spences Bridge

Reports of a stolen vehicle led to an arrest by Logan Lake RCMP.

On the afternoon of Feb. 10, Logan Lake RCMP responded to a report of a stolen Volkswagen Jetta at a gas station on Chartrand Avenue, according to an RCMP news release.

Employees of the gas station told the RCMP they had seen the vehicle leave toward Merritt or Ashcroft. RCMP do not identify the business.

Officers conducted patrols for the suspect vehicle.

Fifteen minutes after the initial report was received, officers spotted the stolen vehicle travelling on Highway 8 toward Spences Bridge. Because of the excessive speed at which the driver was operating the vehicle and his erratic driving, officers did not pursue.

A spike belt was deployed near Highway 8 and Highway 1 and that forced the vehicle to stop at which point officers arrested the driver.

Christopher Loosley-Millman, 44, is being faced with charges of theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police and dangerous operation of a conveyance.

He's being held in custody until a bail hearing later this week in Kamloops court, according to court documents.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Logan Lake RCMP at 250-523-6222.
