Two Calgary-area suspects were arrested near Salmon Arm yesterday after speeding over a spike belt in a stolen pickup truck.

Salmon Arm RCMP joined in the chase on the Trans-Canada Highway at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, after the pickup had already escaped from police in Revelstoke hitting speeds of more than 160 km/h, according to an RCMP media release.

Police laid down two spike belts at two different locations after the truck drove through Sicamous.

The first belt deflated both front tires of the Nissan Frontier pickup, which came to a stop near Canoe. Both men were caught after short foot chases.

Both suspects have lengthy criminal records for property crime offences.

“The successful and safe apprehension of these two suspects and the recovery of the truck was facilitated by good communication across three detachments on the Trans-Canada corridor,” Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West says in the release.
