SURREY, B.C. - Police say an "itsy-bitsy" intruder inside a vehicle caused "scramble" on the weekend in Surrey, B.C.
It also led concerned members of the public to call police about the possibility of a woman in distress, although the Mounties say it turned out that a spider was behind the reports of a "suspicious circumstance."
The RCMP say they received the calls Saturday afternoon about the woman travelling in a sport utility vehicle.
Members of the public said she had opened the door of the SUV while it was moving, but police determined she was trying to shoo the spider out of the vehicle.
In a news release, police say they tracked down the man and woman in the vehicle and confirmed there was no criminal activity.
The Mounties say they hadn't intended to cause alarm.
"This incident was, in fact, caused by a spider," the RCMP said in the release. "The spider made a surprise appearance in the car, causing a bit of a scramble, and led to the woman to cry out for help."
