ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - A recent bank heist in Abbotsford, B.C., was literally an open and shut case — in fact, it was shut before it even opened.

A plainclothes police officer is getting the credit for the speedy arrest after watching a man race from a bank in the Fraser Valley community, ripping off and tossing away various items of clothing as he ran.

Finding those actions somewhat suspicious, the officer called for help and intercepted the suspect, who had just jumped into a waiting cab where a teenaged accomplice was waiting with the unsuspecting taxi driver.

The 22-year-old suspect and an 18-year-old woman were under arrest within minutes of what was confirmed to be a robbery of the nearby bank.

Abbotsford Police say the suspect used a note and implied he had a weapon before staging his short-lived getaway with a small amount of cash.

They say the suspect is well-known to them and was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large.
