VERNON – The hunt is on for a driver who tried to play chicken with a Vernon RCMP cruiser early this morning.

At around 3:35 a.m., Monday, March 2, an officer tried to pull over a Honda in the area of 29 Street and 39 Avenue near the Civic Arena, according to RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“Our officer felt it was suspicious that the driver was making deliberate lane changes,” Molendyk says in a media release.

The driver didn’t pull over and took off at a high rate of speed, but police didn’t go after them.

A second RCMP officer was in the area and started looking for the suspect vehicle. The suspect drove his car directly at their police cruiser.

“Our officer had to take evasive action to avoid being hit,” Molendyk says.

The Honda and it’s driver disappeared after that.

Molendyk says they have a possible licence plate number and are following up.
