Southern Interior the only region where BC United lead in the polls

If an election were held tomorrow, voters in the Southern Interior would choose a BC United government.

However, on the first day of the official name change for the BC Liberals – now BC United – the rest of the province would vote in another term for the BC NDP.

According to an Angus Reid poll, 45 per cent of British Columbians would vote NDP, compared to 31 per cent who would vote BC United. The Green Party sits at 16 per cent, while eight per cent would vote for other parties.

Across the province, the Southern Interior is the only area that favours the BC United party more than the NDP with 46 per cent of voters supporting them, compared to 40 per cent preferring the NDP.

BC United clearly has its work cut out before the proposed fall 2024 election, as the poll found that almost one-third of B.C. residents simply don't have an opinion about BC United leader Kevin Falcon.

According to the Angus Reid poll, 49 per cent of voters approve of B.C. Premier David Eby, while only 20 per cent approve of BC United leader Kevin Falcon.

"While the ground around the BC NDP appears politically stable, the opposition needn’t work too hard to find potential cracks," Angus Reid says in a media release. "The cost of living continues to drive anxiety in the province, alongside years of health-care and housing affordability challenges."

According to the poll, 63 per cent of voters say the cost of living and inflation is the top issue facing the province. Second is healthcare at 50 per cent, followed by housing affordability at 40 per cent.

Only 17 per cent said the government is handling the cost-of-living crisis well, while 28 per cent say the government is performing well on the issue of healthcare.
