We don’t endorse any single candidate. Our comments on these answers are an assessment of whether the candidate gave a candid answer as we asked for (REAL) or relied on party platforms, leadership or attacks on rivals for their answers (PUPPET).

OUR TAKE: Conservative candidate Marshall Neufeld is the only one of 18 candidate who didn’t submit a questionnaire. We take some responsibility for that, but not all.

On Oct. 1 we emailed the questionnaire to theconservativeparty@shaw.ca, one of the addresses originally on his web page.

We called Neufeld’s office when the questionnaire was not returned by our Oct. 5 deadline and were told he would get the message. The email address was confirmed as valid.

When we tried again this week, a staff member manning the phones at Neufeld’s campaign office again confirmed the email address we used was valid. When we asked to speak to Neufeld or his campaign manager, the staff member said no but she would get someone to call us back.

Levin Njogu is Neufeld’s campaign manager. He’s the same man who insisted on accompanying Neufeld throughout a candidate interview we did early in the campaign and wasn’t afraid to interject in the interview.

Njogu said they never received the questionnaire and said we used the wrong email address.

We agreed to send the questionnaire again and agreed to hold back the entire election package until 2 p.m. Oct. 15 so Neufeld would have a chance to answer seven questions.

This morning, we got this response:

Thank you for sending Marshall the survey yesterday and making an attempt to contact the campaign before press time. Unfortunately, I not feel (sic) Marshall had the adequate time to respond to the survey in a way that would give your readers the thorough responses they deserve.

These things happen and we will be better prepared for next time

Regards,
Levin Njogu

Campaign Manager

Given everything we encountered with the Neufeld campaign, we are comfortable considering him a puppet for his party, adding little individuality or asset to the Conservative pursuit of the riding.

If you are considering voting Conservative in the next election, think Stephen Harper. We seriously doubt Marshall Neufeld is going to sway your vote.
