OSOYOOS - A well-known South Okanagan resort is joining the Hyatt hotel chain.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation said in a press release it has entered into a franchise agreement with Spirit Ridge Owners Association to join the Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand as of December 2017.

Spirit Ridge, located in Osoyoos, currently provides a full range of services and amenities including a conference centre, 226 suites and villas and a private beach, according to the release.

Hyatt Hotels intends to begin a $5.2 million renovation at the resort this winter, with a renovation of guest suites, and public areas to be completed by the spring of 2018. The resort will remain open while the renovations take place.

"Spirit Ridge is an exciting addition to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, and we are delighted it is our first Canadian property for the brand,” Scott Richer with Hyatt said in the release. “With its rich history, Hyatt guests will be able to experience the incredible historic and indigenous culture that this resort has to offer and create new stories at Spirit Ridge.”

The resort currently employs 130 people.
