OLIVER - A private formula one racetrack and motorsports park in the South Okanagan is moving ahead with its next phase of construction.

Area 27 Motorsports Park has finalized plans for the first of several news buildings, according to an Area 27 media release.

Construction of the racetrack on Osoyoos Indian Band land above Oliver began in 2012 and the grand opening was held in June 2017.

An 11,000 square foot multipurpose building is about to commence construction with a completion date scheduled for 2019, Area 27 says.

The facility’s administrative services building will contain 3,000 square feet of event space along with room for food and beverage services. There will also be room for a state of the art classroom for the racetrack’s Academy 27 programs and private coaching from Academy 27 instructors.

Assistant general manager Felicity Johnson says in the release the track hopes to complete a refuelling station, karting facility and on-site storage and paddock garage facilities over the next two years.

The track was made famous when the former hosts of the hugely successful British TV show Top Gear stopped by to film a segment for The Grand Tour for Amazon Prime which was release in February.
