Since starting up over three years ago, the stalled development SOPA Square seems to be moving ahead and today developer P218 Enterprises is taking the project back to city council for a re-zoning approval.
The developer is requesting to rezone properties on Groves Ave and Newsom Ave at the rear of the Square to create surface parking for the commercial activity and shops in the building. This will modify the initial 2008 development permit for the site located on the 3000 block of South Pandosy Street and would also exceed the maximum of allowed commercial parking in the area.
In exchange for the increased parking, the developer proposes pedestrian-oriented retail mews at the rear laneway, two parking spots designated for a car sharing program, a green roof and a landscape buffer between the residential neighbourhood.
