Sons of the Pioneers 85th anniversary tour includes Okanagan stops

The legendary Sons of the Pioneers will perform at four Okanagan venues including Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and Oliver in October.

OKANAGAN - Four communities in the Okanagan will be playing host to one of the most decorated country and western groups next month.

The group includes such country legends as Tommy Nallie, Roy (Dusty) Rogers Jr., Ken Lattimore, John Fullerton, Paul Elliott and Chuck Ervin.

The Sons of the Pioneers are known for their seamless harmonies, iconic yodelling and poetic images of the west with such timeless songs as “Cool Water,” “ Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky.”

The Pioneers' Facebook page notes the band has won honours from the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Music Association Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The group has been named one of America’s national treasures.

The group celebrates its 85 anniversary with a tour and the release of their first album in eight years “85 Years of Harmony.”

The Pioneers' Okanagan schedule includes:

  • Oliver’s Venables Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Penticton’s Venables Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Vernon’s Performing Arts Centre on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Kelowna’s Community Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 12  at 7:30 p.m.
