The family of a man who lost his rural North Okanagan home in a fire on Father's Day is asking for the community to help him rebuild.

Kevan Ramsey lost his home and most of his personal possessions when his home went up in flames. His son Kyle Ramsey has set up an online fundraiser to help his dad.

Lumby fire chief Tony Clayton said crews responded to the fire at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19, on Albers Road and the house sustained significant damage. The cause was deemed to be accidental. No one was injured.

There is no connection between the house fire and a barn fire that occurred early that morning in another location, Clayton said.

A faulty wire ignited, causing the home to catch fire, Kyle said in the online fundraiser started yesterday, June 26.

“My dad has always dreamed of owning a small home in the country where he could spend his retirement years with his pets and family. We all thought he was fortunate enough to achieve that dream, and we were happy for him. Now, due to some technical rules with his insurance, we are uncertain whether he will be reimbursed for anything, and his dream has been shattered,” Kyle wrote.

“If you know my dad, you know he would do anything to help someone if they asked him to, and at the same time, he would likely never ask anyone for help. So, I am doing it for him.”

The online fundraiser aims to raise $20,000 and you can find it here.

Kyle could not be immediately reached for comment.
