A number of gyms in Kamloops are remaining open despite new COVID-19 restrictions that came into effect today.

Adult gyms, fitness centres and dance studios across the province are some of several public spaces to be closed as of today, Dec. 22, until Jan.18, according to the provincial health order.

Ladies Only Fitness, Gold’s Gym Kamloops and No Limits Fitness have posted the following message on their respective Facebook pages.

“As we wait to receive notice from provincial health, we will be operating as usual under our current COVID health and safety policies. As we wait for this information we will continue with our safety protocols. The Ministry’s health policies support our health care system and are important in keeping our community safe.

"We also know in this difficult time our members need us for physical, emotional and mental health. With the effectiveness of our current COVID safety protocols we are hopeful that we can remain operating safely and responsibly. We will continue to keep our members posted if anything changes.”

None of the fitness centre owners immediately responded to a request for comment.
