Silva's early goal enough as Toronto FC shuts out New England Revolution 1-0

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Rookie midfielder Luis Silva scored in the eighth minute Saturday as Toronto FC downed the New England Revolution 1-0.

Toronto (4-11-4) snapped a six-match winless skid in Foxborough, while also ending New England's five-match (2-0-3) unbeaten run.

Silva was making just his second start since May 26. He finished off a pass from Danny Koevermans, who threaded the ball through a trio of Revolution defenders.

Silva delivered the ball past New England goalie Bobby Shuttleworth, making just his second start of the season, into the lower right corner of the net.

New England (6-8-4) was shut out for the sixth time this season. Toronto goalie Milos Kocic made four saves and denied the Revolution on 11 second-half corner kicks.

Toronto improved to 2-6-2 on the road this season and has surged since Paul Mariner took over as head coach on June 7. The club as lost just once (3-1-4) over its past eight outings.
