Snowfall warning for Trans-Canada through Rogers Pass

Drivers making their way from the BC Interior to Alberta tonight and tomorrow are in for some challenging winter driving conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Trans-Canada Highway through Rogers Pass to Eagle Pass where up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected.

The heavy snow is expected to start tonight, Dec. 13, and continue tomorrow when it should taper off late in the day, according to the warning.

A frontal system is crossing southern BC will also drop up to 15 cm of snow in the  North Thompson and North Columbia regions.

Forecasters point out weather can change suddenly in the mountains and driving conditions can become hazardous.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the warning reads. “If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

“Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.”
