Snowbirds to perform tonight, but extent of show depends on smoky conditions

FILE PHOTO -Smoky skies in Penticton may result in a limited performance of the Snowbirds this afternoon, Aug. 9, 2017.

PENTICTON - The show must go on, but exactly how it will be presented will be up to the weather.

Penticton Air Display 2017, the group responsible for bringing the Snowbirds to Penticton, said at noon today, Aug. 9, the Snowbirds will be performing, but the type of show will depend on how clear the skies are at the time of the performance.

The planes could be heard flying this afternoon, but weren't visible.

Three Snowbirds were scheduled to take off at 2 p.m. to check conditions, with a third confirming visibility at 4:30 this afternoon.

If visibility is good, the whole team will perform.

If not, two acrobatic pilots will fly and perform for about 10 minutes.

The CF18’s performance timing will depend on whether the whole Snowbirds team performs.

If they do, the CF18 will fly at 7:15 p.m., following the departure of this evening’s scheduled Air Canada flight out of Penticton Regional Airport.

If the short acrobatic show takes place, the CF-18 will perform immediately after them, and prior to the arrival of the Air Canada scheduled flight.
