A snow groomer operator on Silver Star Mountain near Vernon found themselves in need of the services of search and rescue this past weekend.
Volunteers with Vernon Search and Rescue were called to Silver Star late in the afternoon on Sunday, Nov. 29, after a groomer operator on the snowmobile trails experienced a mechanical issue, according to a media release from the search and rescue group.
Three search and rescue volunteers were already on the mountain riding the Vernon Snowmobile Association trails and they were able to respond quickly, transporting the operator out of the area within an hour.
"We would like to note that the operator utilized the Garmin inReach in the groomer to call for help in an area of no cell reception, these devices save time for SAR members in rescue situations and make our job much easier," reads the release.
Vernon Search and Rescue reminds the public to call them early and call often in the event of an emergency via 9-1-1 or by using an SOS device.
