Meteorologists are tracking a weather system laden with moisture that is forecast to move across the Southern Interior this weekend.

The frontal system currently over the Gulf of Alaska is expected to drop 10 to 20 centimetres of snow in Kamloops, the Shuswap and North Okanagan Saturday, Feb. 25, and Sunday, according to a snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada today.

The weather office said local accumulations of snow could be up to 25 cm before the precipitation tapers to flurries Sunday morning as the system moves out of the area.

The snowfall warning also covers the Clearwater, Barriere, Blue River, Kinbasket, Revelstoke and Malakwa regions.

For those planning to travel to and from Kamloops and the Okanagan this weekend, be aware the heavy snow is expected on the Trans-Canada Highway to Alberta including the section from Rogers Pass to Eagle Pass where up to 35 cm is expected.

The heavy snow will create driving challenges thanks to reduced visibility and slippery conditions.
