A Penticton film festival has the ambitious goal to awaken culture and unite communities.

Snakebite Film Festival, which began in the city in 2017, wants to "give voice to those seeking connection and community by highlighting stories of diversity," according the festival's organizer and creator Carl Meadows.

Meadows says this year's film lineup contains subjects of interest to residents of the Okanagan, dealing with such themes as diversity and wildfires, homelessness and Indigenous issues.

"We did very well last year, and we're anticipating a full theatre for each performance this year," Meadows says.

The Snakebite Film Festival takes place at Landmark Cinemas 7 in Penticton from Thursday, Jan. 30 to Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 and tickets are now available.
