Wildfire smoke is expected in the South Thompson, including Kamloops, today, July 31, and tomorrow, according to a special air quality statement issued by Environment Canada.
Smoke is also expected in the South Peace area over the next two days.
The Okanagan is not included in the air quality statement but the forecast is for the possibility of local smoke in the North and Central Okanagan this evening.
The Air Quality Health Index for Kamloops is listed as 6 out of a scale of 10, or moderate. It’s forecast to drop to 4 today through tomorrow night, which is also considered a moderate health risk.
Despite the smoke, Kamloops is expected to reach a high temperature of 30 Celsius today and for the next few days, rising to 32 C Thursday and Friday and 33 C on the weekend.
Other than for the smoke, there should be sunny skies through next weekend except for Friday, which is forecast to be cloudy.
In the Okanagan, sunny skies are forecast all week as well, except for Friday.
High temperatures in the North and Central Okanagan should reach 31 C today and tomorrow and remain near or above 30 C through the weekend.
Penticton can expect a high of only 29 C today but the forecast is the same as the rest of the Okanagan through next weekend.
