Smoky skies advisory issued for Penticton

The Ministry of Environment has issued a smoky skies alert following the introduction of large amounts of smoke into the South Okanagan.

PENTICTON - Residents with respiratory issues are being advised to limit activities as smoke conditions worsen in the South Okanagan.

The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Interior Health, has issued a smoky skies advisory for the South Okanagan today, August 19.

The ministry advises residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities as smoke concentrations are expected to vary widely due to winds, fire behaviour and temperature change.

Those suffering from breathing difficulty, chest pain or discomfort and those experiencing a sudden onset of cough or irritation of the airways should contact their health provider. Those with underlying conditions such as diabetes, heart or lung disease are at increased risk, as are the very young and old.
