Smoke to drift into Southern Interior, says Environment Canada

The Thompson River in Kamloops is barely visible through a thick screen of wildfire smoke on Aug. 13, 2018.

Much of the Southern Interior may see smoke in the next couple of days.

The  South Thompson, Nicola, Similkameen, South Okanagan, and Boundary areas have now been now added to the special Air Quality Statement that had already been issued for the  North Okanagan, Central Okanagan, Shuswap and North Thompson.

"Many regions in the BC Interior are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours," Environment Canada said in its statement.

"Smoke has returned to parts of the Kootenays and Boundary from local fires as well as those burning south of the US/Canada border. Smoke has also periodically returned to areas around and eastward of Williams Lake."
